The Edible Yard - first planting out!

The sun is shining and I've just direct sewn some peas and late broad beans in the world's smallest legume patch! Couldn't be arsed with rows, so I've planted up the two foot patch with what could be very kindly described as drift sewing, but more accurately as 'bloody random'! Dylan decided to help by playing with some cotton buds, then climbing in a pot and pretending to be a plant. Helpful.

Speaking of plants, my skills clearly do not extend beyond veg. After planting lots of daffodils I have.... *drum roll*... two. Only I could fail with the world's easiest plant. Doh!

Ah well, I'm building up my store of recycled containers for the first indoor sewings next week, and even recycled my old spend compost as mulch on the naked beds. Whoop! Have never grown broad beans before so fingers crossed!!!

Testing out the new 'Tuffspot' tray!

Paper -tested! Blocks - tested! Next thing to try - sand or water I think!

The sun is shining, Dylan went down for a mega two hour nap (along with Daddy!) So I got busy in the garden for the first time this year. I dug over all bar one of the beds (how I can call patches of dirt THAT small a bed I dint know!) and built this year's 'mighty erection for my beans. I even trimmed the bush by the back door, though the dead pigeon in it remain *shudders*.

Once I've rebuilt the greenhouse, on a few weeks it's planting time - whoop!

This year I'll be cramming the following into my tiny garden:

4 courgettes
1 butternut squash
1 spaghetti squash
6-10 sweetcorn
8 runner beans
16 French beans
Giant sunflowers
Cut and come again salad
Peas
Maybe some edible flowers

And in containers:
Aubergine
Pepper
3-5 tomatoes
More salad
Radishes

Plus I'm going to illicitly plant some veg in a neglected patch of ground round the side of our row of houses - tee hee!

It's going to be a busy year!
